after an emergency was luckily resolved, headed over to a watering hole i frequent. sat at the bar, like always.
mid-age guy comes, strikes up a conversation. admits he's drinking because of a problem. i pretend to be waiting for a friend. guy assumes it's a he.
he asks about my work, lalala. i ask about his problem - like a good barmate - and listen attentively. he then proceeds to give advice, mostly about life. we sing a few lines from 'father and son' in the process.
in a span of 10 minutes i was called 'not that beautiful, but young' to 'guapa' to 'young and very beautiful'.
then he says he wasn't looking for anyone, just wants a conversation, i'm too young for him. he's just thankful i was there, lalala.
eventually i pretend to receive a call, presumably from the friend i was going to meet somewhere. i make the call last for a good five minutes. it's the usual pretend call i make: where are you, who are you with, i'll send the files in the morning.
after my 'call', guy says he overheard. and wants to tell me something.
"you love him."
i deny, say we're a group of friends.
no, no, he says. you love the guy. if he loves you back he should be here.
i start to say no again, but he cut me off, saying,
"i don't care. he should be here."
i shrug. i have to go, i say.
and i went.
